ANYONE taking a walk near East Aston Common in Longparish will notice a new addition to the beautiful countryside scenery which should be completed in time for Christmas.
Hampshire County Council's Rights of Way team is installing a new oak timber footbridge over the River Test, to replace the original 'Long Bridge' which was made of concrete and metal and had been vandalised and had deteriorated after years of use.
The new bridge, which is very much in keeping with the countryside surroundings, restores a variety of circular routes in the area and allows popular short walks past the Upper Mill.
Executive member for recreation and heritage, Cllr John Wadding-ton, said: "Not only will the bridge add to the appeal of the area, it will enable walkers to use the crossing once more to go on the many the walks in the area.
"We hope that people will enjoy using it and make the most of the opportunity to get out and see the countryside in all its seasonal splendour."
Work on the bridge is currently being carried out, and walkers and residents can expect to see it completed before Christmas.
