SOME of the most illustrious names in Southampton shipping have dropped anchor at the city's Maritime Museum.
The fleet of 79 miniature vessels has been donated by the widow of Southampton-born model maker John Dennis.
Mr Dennis, who died three years ago aged 71, worked for Red Funnel before moving to London.
Among the models he made are of the Aquitania, Normandy and HMS Vanguard.
Widow Joyce donated them to the museum as she wanted the ships to return to their home port in memory of her late husband.
Councillor Derek Burke, city council Cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: "The great ships that plied their trade at Southampton Docks influenced the lives of virtually everyone in the city.
"We are delighted to receive these superbly intricate models for our maritime collection."
They can be seen at the museum at Town Quay.
