VALLEY Park residents have given their environment a boost by planting shrubs and improving the habitat for wildlife around the Knightwood Leisure Centre.
Despite appalling weather, a 30-strong workforce joined the event planned by Friends of the Parks.
Chairman Steve White was delighted with the turnout and applauded everyone's efforts.
He said: "The planting was a huge success and everyone, especially the children, thoroughly enjoyed themselves - including the refreshments at half-time."
Among the volunteers were pupils from Chandler's Ford's Toynbee School who entered into the friendly spirit and worked hard alongside local residents and borough councillors Caroline Nokes and Alan Dowden.
The Friends of the Parks is a practical group which aims to work with the local community to develop a sense of ownership and pride.
Future events - which will be advertised in the local media - will be open to anyone who wants to help local environmental enhancement.
