Hampshire PGA have honoured former secretary Jack Wells by putting his name to the annual challenge match between the county professionals and the assistant professionals.
The event, which was taking place at South Winchester today, will now be known as the Jack Wells Challenge Match.
Now 82, Jack remains an active member of the Bramshaw and New Forest clubs.
He took over as secretary of an ailing Hampshire PGA in 1972 and during the next 15 years years guided the association to a position of prominence.
He was also heavily involved in the formation of the Patrons of the Hampshire PGA in 1973 and has been their secretary for 29 years, encouraging young professionals and junior golfers. Paul Smith (professionals) and Philip Bryden (assistants) are captaining the respective teams at South Winchester today with Richard Bland stepping down from the European Tour to play.
