PUPILS at a Southampton school have been taught how to build bridges by the Army.
Members of the Royal Engineers visited Millbrook Community School, in Green Lane, to give pupils some tips on construction.
Concrete and steel made way for cardboard tubes, paper and sticky tape as the children got to grips with putting together their own bridges.
The designs were then tested for their durability by having weights placed on them.
The school's head of pastoral care, Paul Gaston, said: "This is the second year we have run this exercise.
"It is great fun for the children as well as an excellent way of the pupils finding out more about structures and the mathematical calculations involved in building them.
"They also experience working together as a team."
The project is part of a long-term collaboration between the school and the Army, which has already seen youngsters undergo team- building and command task exercises with service personnel.
