A new audio guide to the display of Iron Age jewellery at the City Museum, Winchester, has been launched this week.
The Winchester Treasure exhibition opened on October 16th and has already attracted thousands of visitors, but the museum's staff hope that the new guide will encourage more interest.
As a result of nearly £50,000 Heritage Lottery funding, Winchester City Council's Museums Service commissioned Antenna Audio to prepare the tour.
The idea of a 'treasure hunt' leading backwards in time through artefacts in the city museum was devised as a way to provide a context for the Treasure.
Ken Qualmann, Head of Winchester Museums, said: "We are very pleased with the contribution of Antenna Audio, which has resulted in a guide that will appeal to people who might not otherwise be interested in Iron Age artefacts.
"It also provides in-depth information for those who want more detail."
The guide lasts for 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the options chosen by the listener, and is available free of charge until April 27th 2003, when the exhibition closes.
