Winchester City Council and DC Leisure have announced a £170,000 package of improvements for River Park Leisure Centre.
DC Leisure is funding the work under the terms of their management contract and it will include an extension to the gym, a new exercise studio and the installation of air conditioning to the existing dance studio.
The centre's gym was last extended in 1998 and has now almost reached capacity. The demand to provide additional facilities continues to grow and the new gym will accommodate thirty new pieces of equipment and incorporate larger warm up and stretch areas.
"The provision of a new exercise studio and the air conditioning of the existing space are long overdue and will ensure that River Park Leisure Centre remains at the forefront of leisure provision," said Peter Leamore, the leisure centre's general manager.
"I am delighted that our strong partnership with Winchester City Council has enabled us to make further investment in Winchester's premier leisure facility"
