Downton manager Mitch Blake reckons his team are strong contenders for the Daily Echo sponsored JWL Club-of-the-Month award for November following their amazing 3-0 victory at AFC Newbury.
Saturday's stunning result means that the lowly Wiltshire outfit finished November undefeated - they drew 1-1 at Fareham before chalking up victories over Blackfield, Whitchurch and then Newbury.
"It would be great for a club like us, in our position in the league, to win the award but we'll just have to wait and see," smiled Blake. "As for Saturday's result, I thought that we thoroughly deserved our victory and it just goes to show that belief and confidence in football really does go a long way.
"I've been saying for a while now that we're quite a decent little side playing some good football and we really should be pushing on now for mid-table respectability," added Blake.
This was a seventh successive league defeat for the Berkshire outfit who have gone into free fall since topping the JWL table in mid-October. And Downton twisted the knife for beleaguered Newbury boss Andy Lyne with a double strike inside the opening 20 minutes.
Firstly, Russ James tapped the ball in following some great work by Matt Guy and then a well-rehearsed free-kick saw Neil Archer float the ball in for Mark Savage to head home. The Robins' third goal came ten minutes from time when they caught the home side pushing forward, Archer's through ball releasing Guy who swapped passes with James before burying the ball past the 'keeper.
While Newbury's defeat will no doubt fuel speculation about the future of their manager, Andy Lyne, next door neighbours Thatcham are set to announce their new manager at a committee meeting tonight.
Club secretary Pete Woodage said: "There is a meeting of the committee this evening and I would expect that the new manager will be named and be in place for tomorrow's home game against Totton."
Caretaker boss Steve Melledew saw his team triumph 2-1 over Brockenhurst at Waterside Park. Headers by Russ Green and Marc Headland gave Town the nod over an effort from Brock's Luke Goram.
Badgers boss Pete Moore groaned: "I know I'm starting to sound like a record but once again we've played very, very well and dominated something like 80 per cent of the match yet come away with nothing."
