Gosport Borough sprang the shock of the day in the JWL by shattering the unbeaten record of title-chasing Lymington & New Milton with a 3-1 victory over Graham Kemp's side at Privett Park.
Manager Gary Lee said: "It was an excellent win and a very pleasing result as well as being an exciting game to watch for the supporters.
"There were a lot of questions asked of this football club and the players just two weeks ago when Eastleigh came here and thrashed us 6-1.
"Well, a lot of effort has been put in since and I think that the players have responded here today with that performance."
Lymington & NM, who needed a point to top the table, fell behind after 42 minutes when a six-man move ended with Jamie Lunn's cross headed in by Mark Peach.
Anthony Tilley fired the Linnets back on terms early in the second half before Gosport 'keeper Andy Smith was sent off on the hour mark for bringing down Steve Strong just outside the penalty area.
Midfielder Jason Mann took over in goal for the ten men who snatched the lead again ten minutes from time when Perry Holland swung the ball in for Stuart Hensman to head past the 'keeper.
There was further drama five minutes later when Lymington had AFC Bournemouth trialist Kevin Gill dismissed for a second bookable offence and, in the last minute, Graham Lindsey rounded the 'keeper to seal a 3-1 scoreline.
Kemp reflected: "It was just a bad day at the office. Leigh Phillips missed a couple of early chances but he's already scored 25 times this season so I can't really blame him.
"I felt that the unbeaten run was always going to end sooner rather than later. We've done well to get this far undefeated and we'll take it on the chin.
"It's all about showing character now and responding to this setback in the next game," added Kemp.
With Lymington & NM losing, Wimborne also missed their chance to top the table when they were soundly beaten 3-1 by in-form champions Andover at the Portway Stadium.
Steve McNulty put the Lions ahead after 32 minutes but Wimborne replied within two minutes with Paul Manning scoring with a far-post header.
Tidworth-based army man Terry Lynch restored Andover's lead before the break and then popped up again in the last minute to keep Howard Goddard's side climbing up the table.
Lymington's defeat means that AFC Totton are now the only side with an unbeaten record - and they pressed home the advantage of their two rivals' defeats with a 2-0 victory at Portland.
"It's been an excellent day with the way the other results have gone," smiled Totton boss Ian Robinson.
"The win today means we are still unbeaten going into December and I couldn't ask any more of the team than that.
"But our next home game isn't until a week before Christmas, so our next six games are all away from home starting with Thatcham tomorrow night and then St Blazey on Saturday followed by Eastleigh," sighed Robinson.
Totton left it late at Portland with two goals in the last ten minutes.
The first was a cracking 25-yard free-kick by Stuart Ritchie after Martin Whiddett had been brought down and then Patrick James made the points safe following a clever back-heel by Ollie Shaw.
League leaders Eastleigh booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup with a convincing 5-0 win over JWL rivals Moneyfields at Ten Acres.
Paul Doswell's side are attracting lots of attention at the moment with Lee Bright being tracked by both Saints and Pompey and Doswell revealed that Saints' assistant coach Dennis Rofe was at Saturday's game, watching Robbie Matthews.
Matthews didn't disappoint as he thundered in a tremendous 30-yard free-kick on 38 minutes to make it 2-0 just after his 'keeper, Colin Matthews, had saved Lee Mould's spot-kick.
Earlier, David Laws had given Eastleigh the lead - and he notched their fourth on 74 minutes following an own goal from Warren Kenna's corner.
David Hughes teed up David Asker for the side's fifth three minutes from time.
