A FORMER Whitchurch firefighter has received a Meritorious Service Medal from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service for more than 30 years of service.
Jim Chard, aged 77, of Winchester Road, joined Whitchurch Fire Station in 1957 and retired from his leading firefighter role in 1980.
Since then, he has been working at the retained station as a non-uniformed member.
Jim's son Trevor Chard, who is also a leading firefighter at Whitchurch, said his father was extremely proud to have received the award.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman David Askew added: "Hampshire is one of the very few brigades to have its own meritorious medal and it's quite an achievement for those who receive it."
