In far from perfect conditions that disabled any kind of open, running rugby, a mixed Southampton side produced a good display against Salisbury II, which could only have filled their captain Tony Cador with confidence for the tough league programme ahead.
Veteran winger Alex Scott ran in twice while the brothers Woolf, James and Dan, both crossed alongside Julian Robins' effort. Cador had an off-day with the boot, hitting just one conversion.
But it was not the 27-12 result that was of concern but the development of newcomers Matt Inder and the younger Woolf who made impressive performance that will see them put pressure on the current incumbents on their positions in the league side.
A strong Trojans II beat a weakened Fordingbridge 17-0 while Stoneham Park warmed up for their attempts to break free of the basement of Hampshire Division 3 with an excellent 24-22 success against Tottonians II.
Two players were taken to hospital following a clash of heads that required hospital treatment, which meant Eastleigh II's game with Southampton Medics was abandoned after just 25 minutes with the visitors 14-0 ahead.
The pair - Phil Campling, who ironically was making his first appearance in an Eastleigh shirt for a month, and 17-year-old winger Dale Brenton - crashed into each other going for the same aerial ball.
Thankfully, both were discharged on Saturday evening with six and four stitches to head wounds respectively.
