Basingstoke came within a charged-down kick of securing a much-needed National Division 3 South victory against Old Colfeians.
Going into injury time, they were leading 19-14 as director of rugby and fly-half Ian Calder's touch-finding clearance kick was blocked.
The visitors collected the loose ball and ran in the match-winning try - their third - which they converted.
It was enough to take the points away from Down Grange and left the hosts still searching for the first win in four.
Kiwi star Calder described the incident as: "all a bit fortunate".
But he was pleased with the whole improvement of his team despite the huge disappointment of not securing the victory as Yann Cullum and Jason Rees crossed for the home side.
It was the Colfeians tries - a 50 metre interception, a dubious penalty try and that killer at the death - that were most galling to the hosts, who find themselves in a three way tussle on six points at the bottom of the table.
"I think Colfs knew they were lucky to get a victory out of the game," felt Calder, "but we get nil return and the two points have gone again despite the side playing really well. We can take a lot of plusses from this and the wins are not too far around the corner."
Four defeats in their last five has not seen Havant drop down the table but the gap between themselves on ten points in sixth and six points at second from bottom continues to narrow.
Their cause was far from helped by tossing away a great opportunity to keep their distance from the foot by losing what should have been a home banker 13-9 to a Redruth side that had won just twice before this surprise result.
This was a lacklustre performance from the Hooks Lane side, for whom Steve Claffey kicked three penalties, but they lacked the cutting edge as the backs flattered to deceive. Redruth were not much better either and marginally deserved to win.
Leading 6-3 after half an hour before Redruth's number eight Nathan Pascoe drove over from close range to put the visitors ahead going into the interval, while Claffey and Larkins exchanged penalties early in the second half piece to maintain the status quo of the four point advantage.
It was a mystery really with Havant being the league leading try scorers that they were unable to break down this struggling Cornish outfit. However, it was not to be and there is cause for concern, especially in the injury department for coach Dave Cook to consider.
South African full-back Anton Petzer limped off, Dave Archer's shoulder only withstood twenty minutes while many others, including Jon Barfoot and Dylan Raubenheimer have only just recovered from long term periods out.
