DOMESTIC violence will be the subject of a day-long information session being run in a Southampton supermarket this Monday.
The Domestic Violence Forum will be holding the event at the Asda store in the city centre to mark the International Day Against Domestic Violence.
The group aims to stamp out aggression of this kind by offering those falling victim to it advice and support as well as information on where to turn.
A spokesman for the group said: "The forum is made up agencies across Southampton who provide support, advice, counselling and refuge to
people experiencing domestic violence.
"We hope that the information we are displaying in the foyer of Asda will encourage people to reach out for the help they need."
Sholing Councillor Sue Blatchford, cabinet member for communities and regeneration, added: "The council is committed to supporting the Domestic Violence Forum to tackle domestic violence.
"This is an appalling crime that nationally accounts for the lives of two women a week and affects many more. We must do everything we can to tackle it."
Councillor Blatchford also promised that a new city-wide strategy for dealing with domestic violence will be launched by the council next spring, aimed at examining the causes and solutions to the problem.
Information about the Domestic Violence Forum is available from the organisation's vice-chair Julie Stallard on 023 8022 9761.
