NOTHING is too much trouble for pensioner June Smith. She has been awarded the title Neighbour From Heaven in a national competition.
Every week the Fareham grandmother shops for her 73-year-old sister and an elderly couple living next door. She also carries out household chores for anyone in need or provides a listening ear.
June, 71, has faced a personal battle with cancer. Now in remission her valiant efforts have not gone unrecognised by her neighbours in Cort Way.
Lynne Madgwick, 42, of nearby Hilson Drive, thought it was about time June, a widow, had some recognition.
She nominated June for the Neighbour From Heaven award organised by the charity Care for the Family. Accountant Lynne said: "She is always full of life and never waits to be asked to do something. She is just such a genuine, lovely and caring person."
June said: "I can't believe I won. I don't really think about what I do. If I see that something needs doing I just do it."
June and Lynne were treated to a VIP tour of London with a ride on the London Eye and a tour around the House of Commons. She plans to donate the £300 prize money to the radiation unit at St Mary's Hospital.
