MORE than 100 Southampton neighbours have joined forces to save a building they say is one of the city's most beautiful.
The cottage on Highfield Road in Southampton is affectionately nicknamed the Gingerbread House because of its fairytale appearance.
Now the university plans to demolish it to make way for a new archaeology building.
More than 100 residents have already signed a petition in Highfield News on Highfield Lane calling for the application to be scrapped.
Peggy Augier, 71, of Roselands Gardens, said: "The university might consider this progress but I'd call it nothing less than vandalism."
A spokeswoman for the university confirmed there were plans to demolish the building.
City council planners will consider the application.
