Three hooded men bungled a raid on Twyford post office this week, injuring a shop worker who tried to stop them.
They burst into the PO at about 7pm on Tuesday. An off-duty staff member tried to tackle one of them, but was hit over the head with a weapon.
They fled empty-handed and got away in a small red car towards Morestead. The victim was taken to the Royal Hants County Hospital and later allowed home.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw a red car driving erratically in the area, or who saw people acting suspiciously in the village.
The three are also being linked to an attempted break-in at Spring Lane Stores in Colden Common on the same evening.
The raiders are described as 17 to 25 years-old. One wore a mask with a black balaclava underneath and a white zip-up jacket, dark trousers and gloves. Another wore a dark blue hooded top with a white logo and blue jeans. The third was about 6ft, of slim build and wearing a light grey hooded top and dark trousers.
Anyone with information is urged to call Winchester CID on 0845 045 45 45.
