THREE hard working individuals have been chosen as the finalists in Andover's Chantry Centre sponsored 'Unsung Heroes' campaign which has been running for the past two months.
The campaign, which is also supported by the Red Cross, asked shoppers to nominate people who have contributed a great deal to society for the award.
There have also been a number of activities in the centre to highlight the work of the Red Cross.
Of the many people nominated three were considered to be of particular note.
Mrs Boo Ward-Booth trained as a nurse during the Second World War and has continued to devote her life to helping people through charity work including raising money for lepers in Hong Kong and children's charities.
Despite suffering health problems of her own she has continued with her work.
"She is a very busy person but will always find time to help others," said Mollie Deane, who nominated Boo. Another person who nominated Boo was Jessica Koppel, who said: "She devotes most of her time to working for others."
Andover's Ron Bennett is a well-known charity fundraiser, in particular for his work with the Brave Hearts charity that helps Andover children and with the Red Cross friendship for many years.
Julia Lloyd, who nominated Ron, said: "For many years Ron has organised funds to help extremely sick children along with the Brave Hearts team.
"He is also a very great man in being always helpful to anyone who asks his help, despite him not having A1 health. He is a very unsung hero."
Village school secretary Christine Barrett is also a churchwarden with a selfless attitude and tireless commitment to the local community in Kimpton and Thruxton.
"Christine is the most caring, most kind, most helpful, most co-operative and supportive person I have known," said Sue Buckmaster, who nominated her.
"There are very few events Christine does not give a helping hand with. "Always willing and selfless with her time, she also regularly visits and assists neighbours and elderly friends in the village."
With three such deserving winners the organisers are having a difficult job in deciding who should take the title of Andover's unsung hero. But a choice has to be made as the winner in the local competition will be nominated for the national final where the prize is a dream holiday in Jamaica.
Readers of the Andover Advertiser are invited to vote for which ever of the three they think should take the title. Send your nomination on a postcard to: Unsung Heroes, Andover Advertiser, London Street, Andover, Hants, SP10 2PE by 1 December.
