POLICE are warning women not to go out alone at night after a teenager was grabbed as she walked home from Flicks nightclub.

The 18-year-old girl was terrified when a man approached her in the early hours of last Thursday morning, pushed her against a wall in a secluded area near Lidl and placed his hand over her mouth.

The man ran off when another man walked by. Now investigating officers want the passer-by to come forward.

"Our general advice is not to walk alone at night, make sure you stay in well-lit areas and try to arrange to walk home with friends or at least in well-populated areas," said Pc Ted Reynolds.

The attack has been caught on CCTV and at the moment the police are treating it as an isolated incident.

But police are also looking into the possibility the attack is linked with an incident in September when a man exposed himself to a woman in Winchester Street.

The flasher was described as being of tanned or Mediterranean appearance, aged 18-22, with short, straight, dark brown hair.

The man involved in the latest incident is also described as having a Mediterranean appearance.

Pc Reynolds said the man in the latest incident did not expose himself and there was no sexual element to the attack.

But police fear the attack may have been more serious if the man had not been scared off.
