Bashley boss Barry Blankley has declared that Paul Sales is going nowhere, scuppering rumours linking the Southampton-based marksman with a move to Weymouth.

Substitute Sales made a headline-grabbing comeback following a three-month groin injury lay-off when he netted the final goal in Bashley's 4-2 Dr Martens Eastern Division win over Burnham on Saturday.

Speculation has mounted in non-league circles recently that Sales's former Salisbury City boss Geoff Butler would be keen on enticing the 28-year-old striker to the Terras once he returns to full fitness.

But although Blankley admits he has spoken to Butler about the striker, he is adamant Sales is not for sale.

The Bash boss, who bought Sales for £5,000 from Salisbury last February, said: "Geoff Butler is always asking whether Paul would be available, but he is not going anywhere.

"If Havant & Waterlooville rate James Taylor at £20,000, you have got to be talking in the region of £15,000 for Paul when he is fully fit. But regardless of that, we will not sell him.

"There is no point putting a squad together if you go and sell your best players.

"I am ambitious and the club is ambitious and we believe we are building a good squad that we want to keep together and that can grow together.

"Paul was with Geoff at Salisbury and is big mates with Geoff's assistant at Weymouth, Ricky Haysom, so of course they rate him.

"But as far as I am concerned, it's hands off!"
