LITTLE Kira Meldrum was the inspiration behind a fundraising stunt in aid of sick children.

Friends and family of the three-year-old vowed to raise some cash for a specialist ward at Southampton General Hospital after she was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Kira is currently being treated at the Piam Brown children's cancer ward at the hospital.

Now her relatives have collected £1,000 after braving the razor for a sponsored head-shave.

Kira's dad, James, grandfather Jim and uncle Verdon all volunteered for the chop at The Crofton Club in Titchfield Road, Stubbington, together with Emma Gibson, who works at the venue. Kira's auntie, Sarah Meldrum, of Argosy Close in Warsash, organised the event.

She said: "It was brilliant. I've got a bald husband now so I've got to go and buy him a woolly hat.

"Kira's granddad is Scottish so he had his kilt on and, to raise extra money, he had the England flag painted on his bald head and people were paying to have their picture taken with him. The club also donated its bingo money."
