A LOCKS Heath family was filled with pride as a sailor marked the completion of the first phase of his training to become a warfare officer in the Royal Navy.
Sub Lieutenant Phil Hodder, pictured, 22, completed the first stage of his course at Britannia Royal Naval College.
Phil joined the Navy in September last year after graduating from Plymouth University with a degree in geography.
He attended the local sea cadet unit while still at school and continued to be an active member of the Royal Naval Reserve while at university.
During his BRNC course, he spent two months at sea in the Mediterranean on board the Type 22 Frigate HMS Sheffield.
Phil's father and stepmother, Michael and Caren Hodder, travelled to Dartmouth in Devon to witness the passing out parade.
The salute was taken by Adam Ingram, Minister for Armed Forces. Phil is now on Type 23 frigate HMS Iron Duke for further training.
