POLICE investigating the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of Fareham dad Roger Scorey have renewed their appeal for help from the public.

So far they have been unable to trace the driver of the car that hit the 59-year-old as he crossed Redlands Lane in Fareham at around 6.30pm on November 5.

The father-of-one from Paxon Road was taken to hospital suffering from serious chest injuries from which he died five days later.

Police were hoping a car they recovered last week, which matched descriptions given by a number of witnesses, was that used in the accident.

But forensic tests and subsequent inquiries have ruled out the car as the one used by the hit-and-run driver.

Senior investigating officer Insp Tim Ashman said: "We have now eliminated the car from our inquiries. It would appear that the car had been abandoned on Thorni Avenue where it was recovered before the accident took place.

"We are hoping that a fresh appeal to the public will help with our inquiries to trace the driver."

Witnesses had told police they believed the car to be a red or maroon Ford Anglia that sped off without stopping to check Mr Scorey was all right.

But according to new information they believe it could be a different model.

Insp Ashman said: "We think the car could have been a Ford Cortina Mk I as both vehicles look very similar from the back.

"We would ask anyone that has information about the car that could help our inquiries to contact Fareham traffic."

He also repeated the appeal for a middle-aged man with a bicycle who gave information to the police on the night of the accident regarding the direction the car drove off in to get in touch.
