A LEADING clothing store will create more than 100 new jobs in Southampton.
Homeware and clothing retailers Matalan has confirmed that it is opening a new store in the city centre later this month.
Jobs opportunities will range from management to shop floor workers.
The company, which is renowned for its range of jeans and household goods, has announced pre-tax profits for 2002 of £53.6m up until August 25 and plans to continue its expansion in the south of England.
The new store will be situated in Marlands shopping centre, Above Bar, on a site previously occupied by Dunnes.
Due to open at 12pm on Thursday, November 28, the two-storey site is currently being refurbished to create the new trading space.
Andy Clarke, retail director for Matalan, said: "We can't wait to bring Matalan to customers in Southampton. This new store will mean that people will have the best clothing and homewares retailer on their doorstep."
The store will bring a much needed boost to the Marlands shopping centre, which has seen competition increase since the opening of WestQuay shopping centre in 2000.
Marlands centre manager Jerry Stampfer said: "We feel that Matalan is the perfect vehicle to bring the centre forward and increase the number of retailers and customers coming to the centre. It can only be good for the city."
Matalan will also be creating a number of temporary Christmas opportunities. For a job application form contact 01695 552732.
