THE Russian Army once struck fear into the heart of the western world.
Nowadays, though, it's their artistic rather than military prowess that's bringing them to our attention.
The Red Army Chorus and Dance Ensemble, which comes to Southampton Guildhall on Tuesday, was founded in 1942 and continues to delight audiences with its wide repertoire of traditional Russian song and dance.
The show offers a celebration of styles from all areas of the former Soviet Union. Under the expert artistic direction of Segey Nuarko, the Red Army has pushed back the boundaries of performance while maintaining the greatest respect for its rich cultural heritage.
Scenes from everyday Russian life are represented by the accomplished Russian folk dancers, while the orchestra and choir promise to bring an extra beauty to some time-honoured Russian classics.
You can see the Red Army Chorus and Dance ensemble at Southampton Guildhall on Tuesday. For tickets and information, call the box office on 023 8023 3359.
