The arduous task of satisfying my after-work appetite the hour before a football match fell to The Cricketers Arms.
Set away just on the outskirts of Eastleigh, the Cricketers offers a warm welcome more commonly associated with country pubs than those in the city.
The rural pub effect was clearly visible with the wooden style interior, but the immediate eye-catcher was the 'two for one' offer on all main meals.
Although the menu was not vast, there was a selection to suit all tastes with tempting daily specials also available.
I opted for the Cajun chicken while my friend chose the traditional fish and chips.
The food arrived quickly and in great abundance, including salad and mushy peas to go with the succulent chicken and crispy battered cod.
Sadly we both had to admit defeat, unable to finish off the meal due to the sheer amount, but continued to enjoy drinks in the pleasant surroundings.
With the current deal, the meal and drinks came to less than £10, but even without a special offer, you would still get change out of £20 for a meal for two.
With Eastleigh FC's ground just a stone's throw away, the Cricketers was perfect for both pre and post match gathering, but would be an ideal venue for anyone wanting a hearty meal at very affordable prices or just a sociable evening out in a friendly location.
