IF YOU associate Joseph with school productions, it's with good reason.
Not only is the musical hugely popular with drama teachers looking for a vehicle to showcase their pupils' burgeoning talents, but it was also commissioned by a school in the first place.
Back in 1968, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice were commissioned to create an original piece of music for Colet Court School's end of term show.
Little did anyone know that this 15-minute production would expand and go on to be one of the most successful musicals around, breaking box office records and going on tour across the globe.
Of course, the current version has come a long way, and the lavish show at The Mayflower this week is a far cry from any school production.
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is, as its title suggests, a stunning visual treat, with talented dancers, vivid costumes and a great set.
It also features a great score, including Close Ev'ry Door to Me, One More Angel in Heaven and the legendary Any Dream Will Do.
The Mayflower, Southampton , November 18 - 23. Tickets: from £14.50. Box office: 023 8071 1811.
