A MEMORIAL to Hythe schoolboy Paul Dunn has been unveiled near the spot where he used to go fishing.

Paul, 12, was killed in July when his bicycle collided with a car in South Street, Hythe.

Now a bench has been unveiled on a leisure area between Hythe pier and the former home of hovercraft inventor Sir Christopher Cockerell.

It faces Hythe Marina Village, where Paul used to go fishing, and was dedicated by the Rev Paul Baird, vicar of St John's Church, Hythe.

Mr Baird added: "Paul was someone who had a great effect on a lot of people's lives.

"His friends valued him greatly, not least because he always managed to cheer them up when they were feeling down.

"This bench is going to be a special place for a lot of people, and we hope those feelings will last for a long time."

The bench was funded by Paul's family and friends, who raised £400.

An inscription reads: "In loving memory of Paul Dunn. You will always be remembered, never forgotten."

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Paul's parents, John and Sharon, of Hobart Drive, Hythe, and his brother James, ten.

Mrs Dunn, 33, said: "Coping with Paul's death gets a little easier each day, but we still can't quite believe it happened."
