A CASH-strapped animal centre has been boosted after members of the public donated more than £20,000 to help safeguard its future.
The money has been raised for Stubbington Ark in less than three weeks after bosses launched an emergency appeal.
Donations have poured in and scores of people are arranging fundraising events or offering to adopt animals.
The appeal got under way following a 42 per cent drop in legacy income in the first six months of the year.
Shelter fundraiser Kate Browne said: "The response has been overwhelming. Calls to donate money and organise fundraising events are still coming in.
"Once again, we thank everyone who has come forward to help. It is crucial, however, that as the weeks go by, we keep the momentum going.
"One of the best ways to help the centre is by giving on a regular basis."
The shelter costs £1,400 a day to run and took in nearly 6,000 animals last year.
Animal lovers can become a "friend" of the ark by donating between £3 and £8 a month or sponsor a kennel or cat unit on a monthly basis.
