New Forest Junior Athletic Club had a mixed set of results in the Wessex Cross-Country League at Hurn Bridge, Christchurch.
The under-13s were well represented with Lucy Wainwright leading the way. The Blackfield Junior School pupil showed great promise by finishing seventh in only her second-ever race.
Shelly Longden finished in the top 20 for the first time, coming in 19th while Phoebe Carson and Nikola Wells continue their improvement by taking 30th and 34th places respectively. Tiffany Markham found her first ever cross-country tough going but still finished a creditable 45th.
In the under-15s, last month's winner, Hayley Pointer, found the short course not to her liking, having to settle for fifth place while Charlotte Bates finished 28th with teammate Laura Marzarloi just behind in 29th.
The sole under-17 representative, Jade Davies, was another victim of the short course, coming home in tenth place.
The under-13 boys were low on numbers but Graham Nelson managed 31st place while Oliver Wells came in 36th.
The club will next be in action at Winchester this Sunday for the Hampshire Sportshall league match. Anybody interested in joining the club can contact club Chairman Tim Wilding on 02380 848914.
