REMEMBRANCE Sunday in Swanmore this week will be an especially poignant affair because the village's Book of Remembrance will be on display.
At the Remembrance service in the millennium year, the book, outlining the military and family lives of the 48 men and women with village connections who died in both world wars, was dedicated.
The book has now been completed.
It has been compiled by village resident Keith Harrington, of Glendale, in memory of his son, Ian, who died on November 9, 1998, aged 23, while a student at Portsmouth University.
Mr Harrington said it was the intention on this Golden Jubilee Remembrance Sunday to place the volume, which has been bound in leather by Sandra Kempf, in a special display desk so that it can be permanently exhibited in the church.
He commented: "In addition to the 48 names commemorated on the war memorial, details of another 17 servicemen who died in the period 1914-1946 with Swanmore associations have been uncovered.
"In the church and churchyard the plaques and graves commemorating a number of those who died will be suitably marked."
Mr Harrington, who thanked those whose recollections had been invaluable in finalising the project, pointed out that pages of the book would be displayed in the Paterson Centre after the service.
The Book of Remembrance contains many tragic reminders of villagers killed in action.
