COUNT Basie is one of the top swing band leaders of all time and has worked with some of the very best musicians the world has ever seen.
In fact it was Basie who brought out the very best in Frank Sinatra when the two played together in 1966 at the legendary Sands Hotel in Las Vegas.
With total respect to the Count, saxophonist Tommy Smith leads the sensational Scottish National Jazz Orchestra in a tribute to the incomparable musician.
Throughout the Thirties and Forties, the Basie band rolled across America playing classic numbers like Jumpin' at the Woodside and One O'clock Jump.
Tommy Smith's brilliant re-creation manages to do full justice to the magnificent swinging style of the fabulous Mr Basie.
The Anvil, Basingstoke, November 10. Tickets: £14.50. Box office: 01256 844244.
