SOUTHAMPTON university students finally get to see the inside of their £5.6m new union building today and it promises to revolutionise their nightlife.
The gleaming new union offers delighted students three new bars, a cinema, an Internet caf and new eateries. But the jewel in the union's crown is the brand new nightclub, dubbed The Cube.
The building is set to be opened tonight with a VIP reception.
It is designed to cope with up to 1,800 students at a time and will be open to 2am four nights a week.
But, because the union is technically a private members' club, the public is only allowed in on 14 nights a year - when the union promise they plan to host big names.
Union president Tim Rowlandson said the makeover was well overdue and would entice students to come to Southampton.
He said: "It is the central focus of student life and for too long we have been living in makeshift accommodation. This is a chance to have a dedicated area to complement the academic life. Hand on heart, it should be the best student- only club in Southampton.
