THE major players in the Premier Division have avoided each other in the Basingstoke A Cup second round matches tomorrow.
But one game stands out as Wellington Social meets the division one leaders Tylney Hall at Winklebury Playing Fields.
Premier Division Well, lost four matches in a row in September, but since then have been unbeaten and are fresh from perhaps the best of the Basingstoke League successes in the Hants A Cup on Saturday.
There they dented Southampton division one leaders Hambler Harriers' unbeaten start to the season. On the same day, Tylney Hall won at Eastleigh Royals 3-2. Former Basingstoke Town Youth player Adam Thomas scored the first and third goals.
One of only two all-Premier Division clashes tomorrow is at Aldermaston where Oakridge West are visitors. Oakridge gained revenge for a recent defeat against Water End on Saturday with Danny Dolan scoring the winner.
New Inn, the holders of the Basingstoke A Cup, are favourites to retain it this season, and should fancy their chances against division one South Ham Rangers, who made their exit from the Hants A Cup last week.
In another all premier clash, Oakley Ath are coming good after a poor start and they entertain bottom club Kingsclere, looking to build on a 6-1 win over Testwood Utd last week.
Bramley Utd are top of the Premier at the moment, but still smarting from the 5-4 Hants Cup defeat they suffered last week at home to Hook. The Hook winner came at the death from Richard Sygrove, but the red card for Martin Campbell after the game could be costly in the future if he is suspended.
Bramley have a much more comfortable task this week in the Basingstoke Cup, for they have the short trip to division one Sherborne St John and recorded their first win last Saturday beating Sainsbury's 8-3, with Ryan O'Keefe and Dan Taylor their hat-trick heroes.
Ropley also had their first win of the season, beating Isle of Wight's Wakes with James Ingle and Simon Rogers, home from University, assisting in this good-looking win. They will need them again this week to have any chance of progressing into the third round of the Basingstoke Cup, because it is Hook who visit.
Lamb Inn, third in division one, face premier Water End tomorrow. Last Saturday, they gave the Hants A Cup holders Basingstoke Labour Club a fright, before losing 6-5. Serge Holland was one of the Lamb scorers, but he will be missing for the next five weeks due to a 35-day suspension.
The other A Cup tie there is an all division one clash as Headley face second placed New Inn Reserves.
There are two matches in the Basingstoke B Cup, with Kingsclere Reserves entertaining Sherfield and manager Allan Doig has high hopes of moving into the quarter-finals after two good recent results.
The other tie is at Berrydown where Tadley Town A meet Overton Utd for the third time this season. New Tadley manager Leigh Cooling is confident of reaching the last eight of a competition in which two seasons ago they were beaten finalists.
There are three league matches tomorrow. In division one Silchester Utd meet Wellington Res at home.
Simon Ash helped himself to a hat-trick in Wellington's 5-4 league win against Headley Ath last week.
In division two, Great Western meet AFC Aldermaston A at Sherborne Road.
Nine Saxons meet Oakley Athletic Reserves at Newfound. Bill Pickett felt mistakes and a wet pitch at Portsmouth were their downfall against Coal Exchange. Oakley Ath boss Hugh Temple, however, is delighted to see his young side through to the next round after a 1-0 win against Riverside.
