Fifteen-year-old Mountbatten schoolboy Carl Bevan from Romsey has outwitted one of the country's largest carp that resides in a local club water with a magnificent 47lb 14oz mirror.
Due to club rules, the name of the water can't be named.
But everyone, even on the fringes of carp fishing, will know its place of residence as the fish has graced all the national angling publications numerous times over the years .
But its present weight of 47lb 14oz is near the highest it has been and there is every possibility the mighty mirror may reach the magic 50lb mark by the spring, which will make it in the top ten legitimate English born and bred fish in the whole country.
Bevan, who works Saturdays in Poing-destres Angling Centre in Shirley, took the fish on a bunch of maggots and a hair rig given to him by his father instead of the usual boilie tactics that has normally caught the fish in the past.
Congratulations to Carl on a major, major result on landing one of the UK's most sought-after fish from a high-pressure venue.
