A MODEL, hi-tech home for the 21st century is being prepared at Fareham for public viewing in the new year.
Work is under way on Fareham's latest Ideas (Innovative designs for energy efficiency, accident prevention and security) home.
Under a joint initiative between the borough council and Atlantic Housing group, the former Acton Lodge hotel in West Street is being converted.
The building will eventually become a life skills accommodation centre, but initially it is being used as the Ideas home for 2003.
The house will be open free to the public on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays during February to give householders the opportunity to view a variety of affordable and practical methods of improvement to keep their homes safe from burglars, prevent accidents and save money on fuel bills.
Councillor Ernest Crouch, executive member for housing, said the previous Ideas home in 2000 attracted 900 visitors.
He said it was hoped the new home with enhanced displays would be even more successful.
He added: "We are delighted that once the Ideas home closes, Acton Lodge will turn into an excellent life skills accommodation centre, enabling residents to learn a wide range of skills."
