Central Park netball team took on the might of Swaythling B on a hot day at the Southampton netball centre and - after a lot of hard work - came away runners-up 42-24.
Central Park was started about 18 years ago under the name of British Gas but they have had a couple of name changes.
Now, the team relies on membership subscriptions to fund league entries.
Most of the team have been playing together for some years so they enjoy the camaraderie of meeting every Saturday for an enjoyable and friendly game of netball.
On the Saturday that Central took on Swaythling it was unfortunately a different matter.
The game started very evenly and Central Park were leading at both the first quarter and at half time. Then Swaythling started to take control of the game and, during the next two quarters, play became quite physical and vocal, with the temperature rising in the air and on court.
But it was a very good game of netball to watch and, even though Central Park's coach gave them lots of confident and positive talking at the breaks, Swaythling did dominate the later stage of the game.
Central Park now know what they have to work on for the next game and the loss will definitely spur them on.
