A CHARITY that supplies food to the most needy in Southampton has been given a boost after moving to new premises.

Crisis Fareshare, launched more than three years ago in Windermere Avenue, Millbrook, has transferred to a larger warehouse at the City Industrial Park, Southern Road.

The group redistributes surplus food from supermarkets and wholesalers to homeless organisations and disadvantaged people.

Southampton Test MP Alan Whitehead officially opened the new site.

He said: "Every day Crisis Fareshare makes a vital difference to the lives of many people in the city by providing them with essential food.

"A dedicated team of staff and volunteers play a vital role in helping distribute surplus food from local supermarkets and wholesalers to a variety of organisations and charities in Southampton."

Annie Knight, the charity's policy and development manager, said: "We had been operating on a quite small scale, so now we are much better equipped.

"This has given us a new start and will allow us to do more work."
