A new report on Southern Water has used modern technology to cut down on paper and printing.
The Sustainability Report 2001-2002 is a first for the company, highlighting its work across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent during the year.
A 20-page summary presents an outline of Southern Water's social, environmental and economic responsibilities while the full detailed report can be accessed on the Web.
Elizabeth McLaughlin, new media manager, said: "This is a new way for us to make the best use of technology in putting across our messages. Using the Internet for the detailed reporting allows us to minimise the printing required, which is beneficial to the environment and gives us greater flexibility.''
The report, which has been externally verified by environmental reporting specialists Casella Stranger, includes the Conservation, Access and Recreation report which is produced each year in accordance with Defra guidelines.
John Spence, asset manager, said: "This new report allows us to produce a comprehensive statement on our social and environmental contributions to the region.''
The report also highlights the improvement to drinking water quality during the last five years and the company's major investment programme in wastewater treatment works which has significantly improved water quality along the south coast.
