WHEN it comes to supporting your favourite football team a Hampshire teenager knows no bounds.
Football mad Dan Williams, 17, is so devoted to Liverpool Football Club he makes the 500-mile round trip from Southampton to Liverpool's ground at Anfield, for every home match.
It may cost £425 for a season ticket and £35 in petrol for every game but Dan believes travelling the four-hour journey from Southampton to Merseyside every other weekend and for some midweek evening games is "well worth it".
He said: "When you can say your team is top of the Premiership and playing European football then it has to be worth it."
Dan, who has lived in the Southampton area all his life, said it was the lure of his Dad Tony's favourite team Liverpool, which captured his imagination.
Now he visits Liverpool 19 times in a season plus any extra FA Cup or European home games.
He also travels across the country regularly to attend away matches.
But the born and bred Sotonian bears no grudges against the Saints.
He said: "I like Southampton to do well especially against Manchester United but if they are up against Liverpool then that is a different matter."
The sixth-form student at Barton Peveril College, Eastleigh, who is studying history, media studies and English language A-levels, fell in love with Liverpool FC in 1992 when Reds legend Steve McManaman came on to the scene.
But it was not until the 1995/96 season that Dan, of Malcolm Close, Chandler's Ford, started holding a season ticket.
From his part-time job at Asda in Chandler's Ford, Dan is able to save up the cash for a season ticket in the Kop stand.
He said: "It does not take too long to save up for it."
Dan also finds the money for a few away games and of course he always sees the Reds take on Saints at St Mary's.
He said: "My highlight was probably Liverpool v Newcastle in 1996 and 1997 when we won 4-3 on both occasions but I missed the last goal in 1997 after Liverpool had blown a 3-0 halftime-lead.
"I also saw Liverpool win the treble in 2000/01 and that was the best season ever."
Next year Dan hopes to study journalism at Bournemouth University but that will not stop him travelling up to Anfield, it will just add a few more miles on to his journey.
Dan, who saw Liverpool lose 0-1 to Valencia last Wednesday night in the European Champions League, will be back at Anfield today to see them take on West Ham.
