THE excellent Alabama 3 will be preaching to the converted this week with a double date on the south coast. Rob Spragg, aka Larry Love, and Jake Black, aka The Very Reverend Dr D Wayne Love, visit Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms on Monday followed by a date at The Brook, Portswood on Tuesday supporting the release of their new album, Power In The Blood.
The album is classic Alabama 3, continuing the band's bluesy, funk/soul dance feel. The album features 14 original tracks alongside an inspired version of Bruce Springsteen's Badlands.
Alabama 3 made their name with classic tracks Ain't Goin To Goa, Mississippi and Mansion On The Hill, not to mention Woke Up This Morning, the theme to the Channel 4 TV programme Sopranos. The band recently appeared on The Simpsons, which featured the hit, Woke Up This Morning in a Simpsons-meet-The-Sopranos special.
"It was great to appear on The Simpsons, but we'll hardly get a penny from it - that's the price you pay for stealing the blues," reflects Larry.
Wedgewood Rooms (023 9286 3911) November 4, The Brook (023 8055 5366) November 5. Tickets: from £10.
