A STURDY crew of rowers made fundraising waves in land- locked Hedge End.
They had been planning to use the car park of retail giants Sainsbury's and Marks & Spencer for a non-stop dry land rowing challenge in aid of Southampton's Rose Road Children's Appeal.
But the gale-force winds forced a change of plan and the event took place under cover in the entrance area.
There were plenty of Sunday shoppers to cheer on the rowers from the Itchen Imperial Rowing Club.
The fundraising event was towards Rose Road's appeal to build a new £4.75m centre in the city's Aldermoor district for severely disabled children.
