Hampshire racing driver Ed Redfern signed off the season in great style at Brands Hatch - with the aid of an RAC patrolman.
Mark Norgate was drafted into Redfern's pit crew as he signed off his season in the Formula Zip Championship, for 1600 Z-Tec engined cars, with a superb double win at Brands Hatch.
The Fleet-based driver went into the last round of the series in sixth place but leapt up to finish third in the overall standings with his best performance of the season.
Redfern, one of two rising young stars of British motorsport backed by the RAC, began the first of the races at Brands from second place on the grid and dropped down to third place before boldly taking the lead round the inside of Paddock Bend.
Redfern dominated Sunday's wet race from pole position on the grid, leading from start to finish.
His pit team included RAC patrolman Mark Norgate and Redfern said: "He'd never done anything like this before but he did a fantastic job and, based on the weekend's performance, I think we would welcome him back at any time.
Ex-Formula Palmer Audi starlet Redfern has been in winning positions several times this season only to be forced off or denied by mechanical problems. "I've had a few podium positions, but this is as good as it's been for me and I hope it will strengthen my chances of finding a drive for next season," said Redfern.
