Landlord, John Holland and his staff at the popular Chestnut Horse pub in Easton have an extra spring in their step this week.
Why? Because they're celebrating their inclusion as Newcomer of the Year in The Good Pub Guide for 2003.
The annual publication, which retains its status as the best-selling independent guide to Britain's better pubs, describes the Chestnut Horse as a "gently up-market 16th century pub, serving good, generous creative food".
The extensive menu ranges from sandwiches such as ciabattas, to hot crispy duck starters, to Sunday brunch. They also serve wines and a variety of beers and real ales, some locally brewed, in a "buoyant, yet relaxed atmosphere".
John said he and his wife, Jocelyn and all the staff were "absolutely thrilled" at the accolade. Along with head chef, Colin and manageress, Karen, they are looking forward to welcoming many new customers to the pub.
Nestled in the snug Itchen Valley village, just east of Winchester, the Chestnut Horse provides the perfect setting for a hearty lunch, an afternoon drink, or a romantic evening and what with the added publicity, it may soon prove difficult to show up without booking. Regulars, watch out!
