A SCHOOL for autistic children in Hampshire has a new minibus thanks to the fund-raising efforts of The Lords Taverners Trust.
The 17-seat minibus was donated to Hope Lodge School in Midanbury Lane, Bitterne, Southampton, by the trust's county representatives Maureen Freemantle and Colin James.
The Hampshire Autistic Society raised a staggering £16,000 towards the cost of the minibus with the trust coming up with the remaining £8,000 needed.
Every year The Lords Taverners raises more than £1m to pay for minibuses for children, especially those with special needs.
Mark Williams, chief executive of The Lord Taverners Trust, commented: "It is wonderful to give this minibus to the Hampshire Autistic Society and help them in their vital work."
The society's community fundraiser Sally Stemp said: "We are very pleased with the bus.
"It means the older students will be able to use the bus to go out and about.
"It will be a great support to both the staff and the students here."
