ONCE again it is that time of the year to put forward your nominations for the Service to Sport award and Club of the Year for the Basingstoke Sports Awards.
The Service to Sport award goes some way to recognising those achievements and it would be appreciated if nominations from within the local sporting community could also be received.
Just detail who you are nominating, what club or sport they are with, why they are being nominated and as much detail as possible about that person, with press cuttings or evidence of achievements, if available.
Everyone heavily involved with a local sports club often feels that their club has had a great season, has potential to achieve a lot due to the planning and development within their committee and is the club of the year!
Now is your chance to nominate your club for the Basingstoke & Deane 2002 award.
There is not an official nomination form, but detail why you are making the nomination.
Clarify if your club caters for youngsters and/or disabled athletes, has a structured coaching plan including qualified coaches, first-aiders, and a good social environment.
Provide information on any talented members, plus any major club honours or achievements since December last year.
Also provide details regarding the club's history and future plans and note that both press cuttings and photos may be included.
Completion of such a portfolio can also be utilised when applying locally for sponsorship, so take some time to ensure that as much detail as possible is included about your club.
This prestigious local award has been won previously by the Basingstoke Gymnastic Club, Basingstoke & Mid Hants Athletics Club plus Basingstoke Hockey Club.
It is now hoped that other clubs from the wide range of local sport will wish to be considered for this year's award with a winner's cheque of £250, provided by the borough council.
It does not matter how large or small your club is, but it is what they have achieved in the last year that counts.
The closing date for nominations for both is December 1. Entries should be sent to: Sports Council chairman Kevin Laing, 1 Meadow Road, Harrow Way, Basingstoke, RG21 3LL.
