REDUCING car use by 24 per cent and improving road safety in Hedge End's Wildern Lane have been identified as priority concerns by the students of Eastleigh borough's largest school.
Wildern School - which is now a designated specialist performing arts college - has launched a travel plan which highlights the need for several measures that will help students, staff and parents reduce the numbers of car journeys to and from the campus.
The plan also seeks extra safety measures in Wildern Lane for pedestrians and cyclists, plus additional cycle storage facilities, improved facilities for bus users and an additional access point into the school's site.
School travel plans are a government initiative to promote alternatives to the car and, in Wildern's case, was a requirement of the planning permission for the recently completed d@rt multi-media centre. The school is also set to expand in the next year with the construction of an additional 13 classrooms which will require a supplementary plan.
