Said the honeybee
To the gooseberry:
"We will never see eye to eye.
You're not like a flower
You are much too sour,
So I'm afraid I must pass you by."
When the rhubarb proposed
To a lovely red rose,
She said "No! You're too full of lust.
I am hoping to meet
Somebody sweet,
Someone in whom I can trust."
A lemon and a lime
Fought all the time,
To win the love of a very sweet peach.
But any fool could see
She was too high up the tree,
And would always remain out of reach.
But such is life
Full of trouble and strife,
It seems to change by the hour.
You find the love of your life
Is another man's wife,
When life seems sweet, it turns sour.

Writes Daily Echo poet-in-residence Polly Clark: "This is a poem that does exactly what it says on the tin. I enjoyed its wry humour and well-made rhymes."
