ASK anyone to name to a famous love story, and chances are they will reply with Romeo and Juliet.
The tragic Shakespeare classic is the ultimate tale of romance and passion (with a little bit of death thrown in for good measure). In the hands of Yuri Grigorovich, artistic director of the renowned Ballet Grigorovich, it becomes a spectacular and moving piece of ballet.
Brought to life with all the drama of the original play, Grigorivich's staging complements Prokofiev's beautiful score with some equally beautiful dance moves - including some spectacular street fights.
Ballet Grigorovich are calling at The Mayflower as part of their first UK tour. A former artistic director of the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet, Grigorovich founded his own company ten years ago, performing classical ballets to enraptured audiences all over the world.
The Mayflower, Southampton, October 25 - 26. Box office: 023 8071 1811.
