THE big guns showed their strength in the first week of matches in the Southampton and District Premier Division, with three 9-1 victories and one of 10-0.
Last year's champions, Snows A, beat their C team 9-1 with Jeremy Wilson and Malcolm Cummins winning all of their games and Mauri Shave only losing out to Steve White.
Generation II defeated Snows B 9-1, with Graham Toole and Victor Imiseev undefeated, while Mikki Sinanan lost the only game to George Cole.
The Alpha A team of Alex Rorke, Danny Lucking and Rod McMullan beat Snows D 9-1. Chris Prince was the lone winner for the losers when he beat Alex Rorke 6-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.
Waterside A beat newcomers to the division, Insurance A, 10-0. Victorious players were Christos Hannides, Howard Davies and Colin Thompson.
Hedge End take top slot in Division 1, having played one more game than the rest. They had an outstanding 9-1 victory over Ordnance Survey A, with Chris and Ken Butt both undefeated.
Ivan McMorran won the only game for OS when he beat Colin Butt 21-16 in the third.
Two teams looking for the Premier Division status next year, clashed at Merry Oak with the home team Alpha B winning 6-4, thanks to a maximum from Glenn Medcalf.
Alister Turner supported Glenn Medcalf with a brace and together they won the doubles 21-19 in the third. Waterside B wins came from Ian Davis (2), Geoff Willis and Chris Willsher.
Alpha D stay bottom of the division with no points. This week they lost 8-2 to Four Ts A. Ken Palmer and Mark Kimber were both undefeated for the victors, reserve Tony Fern chalking up one win.
For Alpha, Chris Marshall and Pete Humphry each won once. If Alpha are going to stay in this division, Chris Marshall could do with a little more support from his teammates as he has scored three of Alpha's four wins.
Waterside D hold on to top place in Division 2 after suffering a home defeat when they went down 3-7 to Snows F.
Keith Hewitt and Mark Waughman were both undefeated for the victors, while Dave Goodyer, Malcolm Bunce and Julie Eldridge each won once for Waterside.
A maximum from Tim Saunders gave Hedge End C a good 7-3 victory over Four Ts B.
Saunders had support from Dennis Cox, with a couple of wins, and Ted Baker, with one. Terry Jenvey won twice and Chris Sims once for Four Ts.
After winning their first match, BAT B were defeated 7-3 by Woolston B. Flemming Alison was again unbeaten with Colin Campbell grabbing two wins and Brian Sandy one. Keith Male won twice for the losers and Eddie Tompkins once.
Garry Green was the third played in the BAT side only to lose all of his games in three - two of them 19-21 and 21-23.
Waterside F were unlucky not to pick up a point when the visited Hedge End B. Shapour Mehrkar and Colin Browning were both undefeated for the victors, while Terry Mills chipped in with one win.
John Slade and reserve Daniel Long each won once for Waterside.
Tony Tidswell's maximum saved Waterside E from defeat as they drew 5-5 with NF Nalgo. Albert Harding and Dan Ashton were the other winners for Waterside. Two wins from Terry Littlewood and one each from Bernie Leamore and Stuart Gange, plus the doubles, made up the Nalgo score.
A maximum from Martin Ceresa, two wins from Steve Lumb and oneby Tony Fern, plus the doubles, gave Four Ts C a 7-3 win over BAT C in Division 3.
Waterside G, fielding two reserves, went down 3-7 to Simmarians, Brian Thacker winning three for Simmarians and John Simonds and Chi Yau two and one respectively.
When the top two teams from last season's Division 4, Alpha E and Waterside J, met this season in Division 3, Alpha E ran out decisive winners 8-2. Paul May won three and Mike Adams and Terry Reeves two each.
Four Ts D held Wimpey to a draw in Division Four, with the help of three wins by Brian Rowlings and two from Brian Gange. Wimpey spread their successes, with Bill Bull winning two and one each from Dave Mason and Derek Parsons, together with the doubles.
A maximum in straight games from Mark Kinlocke, a double from Ian Bingham-Hall plus a doubles win for the two of them gave Four Ts E a 6-4 win over Alpha F.
A second successive maximum from young David Mcbeath failed to save Southampton West C from a 6-4 defeat by the Pirelli B team of Terry Gentle, Meg Stapenhill and Ray Underhill, Gentle winning one and the others two each.
Senior Don Whicher, with juniors Alistair Jones and Ross Black, of Southampton West B, were beaten 7-3 by the more experienced Pirelli A team for whom Barry Fanchi was undefeated.
The Southampton West A team, however, were more successful, returning a 7-3 win over Insurance B. Gary Longland, as expected, won his games. There was also a well-deserved maximum from John McBeath.
