A DNA test has confirmed beyond doubt that the human remains found in woods near Hartley Wintney are those of murdered schoolgirl Amanda Dowler.
Her remains are now expected to be released to the family to allow for funeral arrangements to be made.
Dental records were matched with the remains soon after they were found in Yateley Heath Forest, last month.
However, initial tests on DNA taken from a tooth proved inconclusive.
A Surrey Police spokeswoman said that a second post-mortem, carried out at Basingstoke hospital last Thursday, also confirmed the finding from an earlier one that a cause of death could not be established.
The teenager, known as Milly, vanished after meeting schoolfriends in a cafe near her home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on March 21.
A witness has told detectives that on the same day, he saw two men with a schoolgirl 300 yards from the spot where her body was found.
Police have also renewed their appeals for help in identifying the two men.
They want to talk to a man carrying a spade who was seen near the Ely pub on the A30 just north of the wood on the morning of March 24. He is described as aged between 45 and 50, about 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and wearing a thigh-length park-style jacket with a hood.
A makeshift camp was found nearby with cans, bottles, old food and a sleeping bag.
Police would like to speak to the person who made the camp or anyone who had been using it.
The second man was seen near a roundabout on the exit route from Elvetham Heath Estate going towards Anfells Farm Estate shortly after 11am on either March 27 or 28. He is described as being aged between 30 and 40, about 6ft tall with dark, neatly-cut hair and wearing a short black leather coat, black trousers and black shoes.
There was mud on his clothes - particularly his jacket - and their was a rolled up item on the ground near where he was standing.
Another makeshift camp was found not far from where he was spotted.
Anyone with information that might help the investigation, or was in the Yateley Heath Wood area around March 21 onwards, should contact the incident room on 01372 471212.
